The beauty part about NJ property taxes is the fact that the bulk of the tax bill is to entities that the local authorities “have no control over”….The Rahway Valley Sewerage Authority, Union County, and the state (don’t get me started on the school taxes).

So essentially, the local Town Council has control of less than half of the expenses, and has union contracts that affect a good chunk of the remainder.

This way, brothers-in-law, cousins, and a vast array of middle managers are peppered throughout government entities and are safe; confident that no one, politician or taxpayer, will have the time or zeal to peel back the onion and find them.

So we get articles like this.
