Governor Corzine released the budget plan that cuts $500 million from planned expenditures and eliminates Agriculture, Personnel and Commerce Departments.

While the budget is lower in absolute terms than last year, it is still a first step of many. One aspect of previous department eliminations, though is that some of the few important functions may not find a home, especially with regard to oversight. Which leads, for example, to this kind of long-term waste.
