I was encouraged to read this.  I hope it passes.

We have a couple of compact fluorescents, and I am displeased on their length of life, the slow brightening when turning on, the fact that they can’t be on a dimmer (until new ones come out and need a special dimmer switch), and the fact that we have to have a special dead bulb bucket that is waiting for a trip to the appropriate recycling center. I’m just glad we never broke one. Even the industry is a little sheepish about it.

The mandating of compact fluorescents is probably due to the lobbying by Philips who took a page from the playbook of Archer Daniels Midland that resulted in the current ethanol mess, but in wheelbarrows of cash for ADM.

Let’s hope that lobbying cash was spent in vain.
